The news about the arrest of the owner of a French online gambling company brought shockwaves to all online gambling enthusiasts and operators as well.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unibet, Petter Nylander, was arrested in the Netherlands two weeks ago for breach of French laws. The arrest came as a surprise and a sense of irony to the situation as recently the French's Interior Minister declared that France was ready for international competition for online gambling.

Unibet made in a statement that it is “outraged” by the arrest but will continue to do business as usual. This British-owned online gambling company has been facing adversities from other gambling companies such as Francaise des Jeux, and its horse betting counterpart, PMU. The competition stresses that Unibet prevents other companies to actually operate online games in France.

The monopoly claim of Unibet's competition has only made it worse for the big company. The impact of this arrest can only be predicted. Online gambling has been in hot water since it exposed itself. We can only hope that the truth will come out.
